Bradley and MaKayla visited the National Center for CryoEM Access and Training (NCCAT) within the Simons Electron Microscopy Center at the New York Structural Biology Center in New York, New York at the beginning of February. During their visit, they were screening samples of GRLMR with different small molecules/substrates for single particle cryo-electron microscopy. Here, the goal was to screen samples to find grids suitable for long, automated data collection to obtain atomic or near-atomic 3-dimensional structures of GRLMR. Within these structures, they hope to see how these small molecules/substrates are binding within the enzyme.

Here, MaKayla and Bradley stand near one of the Glacios Cryo-Electron microscopes after loading samples for overnight screening

Here MaKayla manipulates a box of samples under liquid nitrogen towards the transfer station (black and white box) which will load up to 12 samples at a time, all constantly under liquid nitrogen.
